Andrew Koenitzer, DVM
Chief of Staff
Dr. Andrew Koenitzer, our Chief of Staff, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and raised in Cedarburg, just north of the city. He was always fond of the outdoors and spent most of his childhood summers camping and swimming. This love of the outdoors led him to attend the University of Minnesota, where he studied wildlife management. While obtaining his undergraduate degree, Dr. Andrew worked at the Raptor Center and the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, where he realized that treating individual animals was his true passion—so his next step was working at a companion animal veterinary clinic and a dermatology specialty clinic.
Dr. Andrew returned to his home state for veterinary medical school, attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He continued to work with wildlife as a technician at the National Wildlife Heath Center and assisted in research projects studying dog allergy treatments. He was also active in Wisconsin’s Veterinary Medical Association as the student representative for the Public Education and Marketing Board.
After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Andrew needed a break from the Midwest winters and accepted an internship in sunny Southern California! In addition to his busy internship, he worked at a marine wildlife and rescue organization. Even with this busy work schedule, Dr. Andrew was lucky enough to meet his fiancé in California! Together, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada for two years for his fiancé to complete her medical training (there was no time for casinos!). During his time in Nevada, Dr. Andrew worked at a busy practice, helping many pets and while there, he developed new areas of expertise in ultrasound diagnostics.
Five years in the southwest heat was enough for the cold-weather born-and-raised Dr. Andrew, so he and his fiancé decided it was time to return to a northern climate and an active, outdoor-minded city—Burlington was a perfect fit! Ark Veterinary Hospital was lucky enough to eventually hire Dr. Andrew, and he and his fiancé moved to the area with their two cats, Peter and Bode. At Ark, Dr. Andrew looks forward to bringing his experience and expertise to providing exceptional care for the community pets. In addition to wellness and preventive medical care, his interests include surgery, dermatology, internal medicine, ultrasound and dentistry. Outside of work, basketball and cycling are two of his favorite pastimes. He hopes to see you at Ark or out on the trails!
