Allergies in Pets

Allergies are a very common dermatological problem for cats and dogs. Pets can develop food allergies and environmental allergies (atopy) to allergens including pollens, grasses, trees, molds, and dust mites. Thankfully there are various treatments to help treat and relieve allergy symptoms.

Common symptoms of pet allergies include:

  • Excessive scratching and face rubbing
  • Excessive licking of feet, legs, and abdomen
  • Redness of ears, feet, or skin
  • Hair loss
  • Biting, chewing, or licking at the feet or skin
  • Recurring skin infections
  • Frequent ear infections
  • Chronic anal sac problems

Allergy Testing & Treatment

Ark Veterinary Hospital performs allergy testing for dogs and cats. We use a process called serum allergy testing, which involves drawing a small sample of blood to send to a laboratory for analysis. This test will help us identify the specific allergens causing your pet’s allergy problem. Once we have identified the allergens causing your pet’s reaction, we will treat your pet using a specialized serum containing small quantities of these allergens that are specially formulated for your pet.

Please call us today If your pet is experiencing allergy symptoms or to schedule an examination and allergy test.
